Business Spotlight: Hoover Architecture, PLLC


What we do:
We are a NYS WBE-certified, full-service architecture firm, specializing in commercial and custom residential design throughout the Mid-Hudson Valley. 

How it started:
Fifteen years ago, after working for a number of years as an architect in the commercial and industrial sectors, my daughter was born. I decided I wanted to spend as much time with her as possible. I had always done small projects aside my full-time job, so the transition wasn’t that hard. Using my contacts of contractors and past clients from my years in the business, I hung out my shingle.

About the clientele:
I am a sole proprietor, which allows me to design a huge range of projects, rather than getting stuck in one sector. Overall though, my primary clientele are private business owners and custom home clients, and sometimes they are the same people!  

Why it's unique: 
A client gets to work soley with me throughout the entire design process. They never get passed onto a ‘project manager’ or ‘associate’ to have their dream project designed. (I have strong relationships with the region’s top engineers, contractors, and fabricators to ensure efficient, timely and creative solutions to construction goals.)

I keep my business small on purpose. I highly value progressive, responsible design. It all starts with educating the client in a way they can understand. Often times, our clients are already interested and educated by the time we initially speak. Together, we will select the right options for the site and design. I have the final word on all design decisions (after all, it’s my name on every project). I love nothing more then working with a client and seeing how excited they are to see their project come to life!

Movers & Shakers: Charise Isis and "The Grace Project"

Calling Kingston home, Charise Isis is an artist who specializes in portrait, boudoir and pin-up photography. Her work challenges our culture's standards of beauty by allowing women of all different ages, body types, ethnicities and in varying transitional phases of life to be able to express courage, strength, sensuality, depth, individual and unique beauty. Odds & Ends March/April 2018

Picking Up the Pieces Everything old can be made new again. Or at least it can be made different. Such is the premise of Unshattered – a nonprofit social enterprise where women who are winning their battle against addiction make handbags and other products out of repurposed items and other materials. Having completed the recovery program at the Walter Hoving Home - a Garrison residential rehabilitation center for women overcoming alcoholism, drug and other addictions - the women of Unshattered use high-quality, donated materials to make beautifully useful products, and express themselves creatively. The organization’s mission is to help the women find a path forward to economic independence and sustained sobriety, which is done by helping them gain skills as bag designers, seamstresses, salespeople, production and office managers, and design specialists to prepare for their futures. Proceeds form the sales of the products funnel back into Hoving Home programs. Unshatte
